How much does garage door spring replacement cost in Dublin?

My spring broke. Can I still open the door?
You can, but you should not. With the spring gone the opener is carrying the full weight of the door, and that is how motors burn out and cables snap. Use the side door and call us — most spring calls in the Tri-Valley we handle the same day.
Does my door have torsion or extension springs?
Look above the door. If you see a metal shaft running horizontally across the wall with a spring coiled around it, those are torsion springs. If instead you see two long springs stretched along the horizontal tracks on either side of the door, those are extension springs. We replace both types.
Why did my spring break?
Almost always cycle fatigue, not a defect. Every open-and-close is one cycle, and a builder-grade spring is rated for around 10,000 of them. Surface rust and lack of lubrication speed it up. Cold mornings often get the blame, but the cold usually just picks the moment a worn spring finally gives out.
Should I replace one spring or both?
If your door has two springs and one broke, the second one is the same age and has the same cycle count, so it is usually not far behind. We will show you the wear on the old one and give you both prices so you can decide — we do not decide for you.
Can I replace a garage door spring myself?
This is the one garage door repair we tell people not to attempt. A torsion spring holds roughly 200 to 300 foot-pounds of stored torque, and releasing it without properly seated winding bars is how people end up in the emergency room. Extension springs can become projectiles if the safety cables are missing.
How long should a garage door spring last?
With a builder-grade spring and normal use of two to four cycles a day, roughly seven to ten years. If your garage is the main entrance and the door runs six to ten times a day, expect three to five years instead. Lubricating the springs three or four times a year with a silicone-based spray helps.
